I've just finished the planning stages for my second middle grade novel, which has the working title 'Catching Light'. I'm using index cards to jot down ideas for scenes as suggested by Graeme Simsion in his fantastic book 'The Novel Project' and I really like this method as it helps me to really think about where my story is headed before I sit down and write all the details. The story is set 15 years or so into the future in a small(ish) country town and is about a 12 year-old-girl, Stella, and her two friends Amon and Willow. When a mining company threaten to destroy their beloved 'magic forest' Stella and her friends are devastated, although most other people in town are happy that there's finally going to be some money coming into the struggling town. With the help of their family helper Android 'Andy' and some clever hacking skills, the three friends decide to fight the company's plans. It's a dangerous mission, especially as the mining company have some pretty savvy robots of their own. But the more and more time Stella and her friends spend in the forest, the more determined they become to save it...
